Dougie is a product of Six Nations who has experience as a face-off man for field and goalie for box. He took face-offs for the OCC Lazers and the 2016 U19 Iroquois Nationals. He played goalie for the Jr A Six Nations Arrows, and most recently was brought up for the Sr A Six Nations Chiefs playoff run. I was the Assistant GM for the Iroquois Nationals and I have to say I'm proud of all my pups (my name for the boys), and know they can all go off and achieve greater things. Doug graciously agreed to a mini series of interviews, starting with post-Mann Cup/ pre-NLL Draft.
SMo: How do you feel now after winning two trophies (Mann Cup and Nations Cup) in less than a week?
DJ: Pretty lucky to have had the chance to play with both teams.
SMo: How do you handle the transition from face-off guy in field to goalie in box?
DJ: I've been going back and forth for so long that it doesn't affect me as much anymore- it usually takes me about one or two practices to feel comfortable again.
SMo: You didn't announce your decision to enter the draft right away. Did you expect draft predictions to change that much when you announced you were entering?
DJ: I had no idea. That was pretty cool when all that happened.
SMo: Do you have plans to enter the MLL draft?
DJ: No. I think my field lacrosse days are coming to an end, sadly.
SMo: Who is your biggest lacrosse influence?
DJ: My dad's always had a big influence on me. He's the one who taught me the basics of being a goalie. I also watched Warren Hill a lot growing up and learned a lot from him.
SMo: What are your hobbies outside of lax?
DJ: Most things I do are lacrosse-related but I enjoy hanging out with my family and fishing.
SMo: What's your advice to the youth who hope to make it to the NLL draft/ any higher level of lax?
DJ: Be around the game as much as you can- you can learn so much from watching the game.
SMo: On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, how great of an Assistant GM was I (no explanation needed)?
DJ: 10
